Welcome to the
University of Richmond's
Global Studio!
The Global Studio, which has its physical location on the second floor of the Carole Weinstein International Center (INTC 226), has a number of virtual locations:
- general information about the Studio and its services, including placement testing, is located on its website;
- up-to-date information about scheduling and services can be found on its Out of the Basement blog;
- a new wiki, constantly under construction, links to resources for independent language learning;
- this wiki, which contains links to information about SCOLA television and links to SCOLA Insta-Class lessons distributed by the Studio.
SCOLA Insta-Class lessons are short (2-4 minute) video clips chosen from target language news sources. Each lesson includes the video clip, the MP3 of the video's audio track, and a PDF that contains a transcript, a translation, and usually a short comprehension activity.
SCOLA Insta-Class lessons are available to members of the University of Richmond community, because Richmond is a SCOLA affiliate. Therefore, you must be using the University's network or be running the University's VPN in order to have access to any of these files. For help, contact the
Help Desk.
Lessons are currently available as downloadable .zip packages. The Studio will eventually begin to distribute the current lessons as podcasts.
To download lessons and get the URL for the podcast, click on the page(s) for the language(s) in which you're interested.
Don't see the language that interests you? Contact the Global Studio to receive a username and password (available only to members of the University of Richmond community, so use your UR e-mail address).
